Knitting Ministry The Knitting Ministry of St. Bernard's has been an active working group for over two years. This past year we have focused on babies and school age children. We knit blankets and hats for preemie babies at St. Vincent Hospital Hospital and Healthcare, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Mary Mahoney knit a special hat for the first baby born each day in December 2006 with a special hat/blanket to a preemie for Christmas Day. We knit blankets for the baby Jesus shower that went to Care Net. We also knitted at least three sweaters each and donated them to St. Vincent de Paul to start the school year out. Twenty-four sweaters were given. We helped with three back packs the parish children filled with toiletries, books and knitted items. We continue to knit and present prayer shawls and lap robes to parishioners who are working through illness and extreme changes in their lives. The shawls and lap robes let them know the parish of St. Bernard is praying for them and surrounds them with the warmth of the love of their Catholic community. Generous donations of yarn and money to buy yarn have been given to us and we are lovingly knitting it up. We are currently working on more baby hats and a new project, a funny little teddy bear. We welcome input about parishioners who would benefit from a shawl or lap robe. We are also wondering if you know of a child who could use some love to help recover from an extended illness. If you would like to join us we meet in Daly Hall every Wednesday from 1:30-3:30p.m. Come and visit. We are a drop-in group. If you have any questions call Brownie Greene at 591-2604 (that is a change from the directory). |
