Minutes of
Saint Bernard's Parish Council Meeting
February 18, 2003
Kevin Holland opened the Parish Council meeting with 27
present.
It was brought up that Saint Bernard's gave $112,000.00
this year towards the Catholic schools. It is under a different structure than
the last 3 years, and most think it is much better now. It is now being run as a
business instead of a church board. The task force is no longer a parish
representative, but a community representative. There are still four parishes
that don't have a representative at school board.
Kevin Holland gave an update regarding the computer costs.
Father David announced that there is a Lay Minister Grant
available for anyone that was interested in going to any workshop that is
matched with the parish dollar for dollar. Anyone interested could check in the
office for applications. Father David also said that budget time is coming up
again so please think about getting ready a budget for each committee. He also
said that they are putting together a one-page booklet to give to new members
because the old one that is available in the church office is out‑dated.
Education Committee: Small Faith groups will be
continuing with training if needed. We will have a workshop for lent on March
28th, with a video "A Time of Forgiveness". The numbers are still down for the
youth, but not as much as other churches in the city. We will be doing the "This
We Believe" on March 11th and 25th. On March 21st, Ivan will be here. Then on
the 30th the Convent Players will be coming.
Parish Fun Committee: Kevin said that they had some
ideas of activities to do: Bowling, mini golf, sledding/skiing, going to the
Passion Play in South Dakota, roller skating, or going out to the Red‑ Barn.
They were going to check out the cost for some things and get back with us next
month. Kevin gave a list to Sandy for the Graduation Breakfast that may be May
4th.
Social Committee: All were getting ready for the
trip to Haiti. The sea containers are there, but not out yet. Priscilla
Moorehouse is trying to have Virginia Smith come for an "End of life Planning"
talk around May or June. They may have further discussions on the five stages to
nine to help plan. Dan O’Donnell said that the "House the Homeless" is still
trying to get things worked out. There are eight to nine that are actively
working on this.
Liturgy/Worship Committee: Blake Jensen said that
Holy Hour would be on March 3rd. That we moved into Lent. Ash Wednesday, and
Stations with Soup and Bread were all taken care of. It was discussed in the
Parish Council meeting that since Ivan was coming to talk on the 21st of March
that we wouldn't have Soup and Bread that night.
Communications Committee: Randy Heinz said that two
people responded so far and to get a hold of Bitsy regarding the newsletter. The
Communications Committee will like to help in the future.
Since there was no other business the meeting was
adjourned with the "Our Father"
Respectfully submitted,
Wendy Cirimele, Secretary
